What does Quality Assurance and Compliance mean?

Put simply, Quality Assurance and Compliance jobs cover a wide range of roles which together ensure that all risk of serious failures – such as those leading to harm to patients, and financial and reputational (including bad publicity) shocks – are kept to a minimum or are eliminated altogether. This is done by applying the relevant internal, national and international regulations to ensure that products reaching the patient are safe and effective, and they comply with all legislative, good practice and profession-relevant requirements.

What does a Quality Assurance and Compliance professional do?

There are many job titles and roles in this area but essentially what you are doing is using the application of quality assurance yardsticks, which are based on current industry regulations and law, to risk-manage possible threats caused by the use of pharmaceutical products either on the market or undergoing clinical studies. This may include checking that the quality system in place is working correctly and running quality assurance audits, monitoring for possible deviations in standards and putting corrective actions in place, to improving compliance by implementing improvements to the processes.
